Ruggeri claims maiden W75 title at Zaragoza

01 Jun 2026

It was a special weekend for Italy's Jennifer Ruggeri.

The Italian 22-year-old won the biggest title of her career at W75 Zaragoza, defeating the USA's Kayla Day in Sunday's final 3-6 6-3 7-6.

This was Ruggeri's first title of the season and fourth overall on the ITF World Tennis Tour.

If one was to simply look at her title haul so far, then her win at the weekend would perhaps come as a surprise.

However, she has been building towards a result like this all season.

She has consistently lost to strong and in-form players in tight matches in 2026 - plenty of which who went on to win the title.

This was exemplified by her exploits in the Zaragoza final with a fantastic win over Day, who has been one of the form players on tour this season with three titles to her name.

Ruggeri's win will see her make strong leap up the WTA rankings when they update next week after Roland Garros.

Currently ranked at world No. 267, she is expected to rise to just outside the 210 mark.

Elsewhere, Czech 18-year-old Laura Samson continued her hugely impressive career so far with another title at W75 level.

She roared to victory at W75 Kursumlijska Banja with a 6-3 3-6 7-5 win over top seed Lola Radivojevic, claiming her second W75 title of the season and eighth overall at professional level.
